Wineskin Pro 2.0 released with OS X 10.7 Lion support

The Bordeaux Technology Group released Wineskin Pro 2.0 today. Wineskin Pro 2.0 is our initial release of Wineskin for Intel based Mac computers. This release has a custom built Xquartz X11 server that Microsoft Windows Games require to run in full screen mode. We also provide binary Wine builds as well as binary CodeWeavers CrossOver builds from their public source code. Wineskin Pro also comes with Graphical tools to assist you in installing and configuring Wine as well as building your own custom Wine builds from source.

Wineskin Pro 2.0 will run on any Intel Mac computer with OS X 10.5 or higher installed. This released has also been tested on the upcoming OS X 10.7 Lion release.
The cost of Wineskin Pro 2.0 is $29.95 and comes with six months of upgrades and support.
Supported Applications/Games:

At this time we don't offer support on a per Game or per Application basis, the best way to know if a application or game will run with Wineskin Pro is to take a look at the public Wine AppDB at WineHQ. With Wineskin Pro you can have multiple Wine versions installed at one time, so if a new Wine release fixes one Game and breaks another you can still play both of your Games with Wineskin Pro!

About Wineskin Pro:
Wineskin is a tool used to make wrappers to run Windows software on Mac OS X. The wrappers are in the form of a normal Mac Application, which can be double clicked and ran just like its native. They can also be used to make a distributable port of software. You do not need the Windows program's source code, you can attempt to port any program you want.
With Wineskin Pro you will receive basic support for installing and configuring the Wineskin Application. We will also answer questions about installing engines and configuring wrappers, and in the near future provide custom engines that have been tested to work with today's most popular Games.

Unlike other solutions you can have multiple engines (Wine versions) installed at one time, so if your favorite game runs in that engine you don't have to worry about it breaking in a future Wine release.

About Bordeaux:
The Bordeaux Technology Group is a software services and development company specializing in Windows compatibility software. Users of Linux, BSD, OpenSolaris and Mac systems from time to time find themselves in the need to run specialized Windows software. The Bordeaux suite enables access to these programs and data in a seamless and low cost manner without requiring licensing of Microsoft Technology. The Bordeaux Group also provides migration services and support for alternative operating systems specializing in Windows compatibility.

There is a multitude of software developed only for the Windows operating system and even when software vendors port their applications to another platform, generally it lacks features that the Windows version contains. The only solution these developers face is to have access to both systems for testing which leads to increased infrastructure demands, and wasted project resources. If you are vendor interested in supporting your application on Linux, BSD, OpenSolaris or Mac OS X or a software user that needs to run a Windows application on Linux, BSD, OpenSolaris or Mac OS X we can help.
Version 2.0 New Features:
  • Initial Public Release
  • Custom built Xquartz X11 server
We use PayPal as our preferred payment provider, with PayPal you do not need an account to make a transaction simply select to pay via credit card, its very simple and fast.

All good things must end

Over the past year we have been letting our reader know about a special offer from CodeWeavers to save 20% off CrossOver Pro and Games for Linux and Mac. CrossOver also runs on FreeBSD B.T.W all you need to do is buy a Linux or Mac licence then sign up as a advocate and then go to the nightly builds section and the FreeBSD builds can be found there.

Here is a screenshot of the FreeBSD downloads.

As the title says the 25% off "ComeToTheLight" dealcode, e.g coupon will expire on March 31st 2011. So if you need a copy of CrossOver to emulate Windows on your Linux or Mac computer this is a good time to get it before the "ComeToTheLight" dealcode expires. Just go to CodeWeavers store and add the products you need and then proceed to checkout. In the Checkout section is where you add the dealcode, after adding the dealcode just refresh your cart and the 30% discount will be given.

Update 04/06/2023 : The ComeToTheLight dealcode has expired, you can now use "TOM23" as your dealcode and save 20% off CrossOver for Mac and Linux.

I hope in the future we will have another dealcode for our readers, but that is still in the works and when we have something finalized ill be sure to post about it. But keep in mind another dealcode hasn't been given at this time, so take advantage of this while you still can. If you can Tweet or post about this on your FaceBook page, Blog or Web Site and let others know to buy now and get a 30% discount you might gain a friend or two. :)

About CrossOver :
CrossOver lets you run Windows software on your Mac or Linux computer. You can think of it as an emulator, but CrossOver's different, because there's no Windows Operating System license required. It's like running Windows on your computer, but without Windows.

winetricks alpha 20110306 has been released

Dan Kegel has released WineTricks 20110306
Another fortnight, another Winetricks.

Version 20110306-alpha has a slightly cleaned up gui,
a handful of bugfixes and sha1sum updates,
eight new games (crysis2_demo_mp, diablo2, dragonage,
masseffect2_demo, penpenxmas, rayman2_demo, sammax301_demo, and secondlife),
one new dll (dinput),
and one new setting (vd=640x480).
It removes ie68, which is no longer needed, now that ie8 works.

It isolates all apps in their own wineprefix by default now, not just games. The option --isolate-games is gone, and a new option --no-isolate was added. And finally, it's not quite as slow at putting up menus.

Changes since 20110222:

  • Update disk space & time install requirements
  • diablo2: waiting for updater window isn't enough, you have to wait for it to say it's finished!
  • Cope with empty USERNAME, which happens when using startx.
  • hegemony_gold: updated sha1sum
  • Added 'folder' verb to open current wineprefix with xdg-open
  • Show title of installed app rather than absolute path in comment at top, give example of how to install all prereqs
  • firefox: update to 3.6.15, fix system menu.
  • corefonts: Trebuc filenames have mixed case. Fixes bug winezeug-203.
  • Install apps and benchmarks into their own prefixes, too. Show prefix name uniformly in window title. Move ie to dlls, call dlls 'Windows
  • dlls or components'.
  • Add option --no-isolate-games, make --isolate-games the default
  • annihilate: actually ask permission before annihilating the wineprefix.
  • gta_vc: ported, updated.
  • Better fix for bug winezeug-25, should fix new bug winezeug-229
  • w_download: fix progress indicator gui for locales that use , as a decimal separator. Pointed out by kmiksi. Fixes bug winezeug-232.
  • Add a paragraph at the top about what tools this script uses.
  • Cleaned up comments at top. Moved version ID to very top.
  • vc2005trial: update workarounds for wine-1.3.15
  • Last changeset was missing wildcards on two patterns
  • Speed up common case of w_pathconv -u 3x by writing it in shell. Suggestion by Christian Storgaard.
  • rayman2_demo: new verb. Based on a patch by Shannon.
  • Make --optout take effect earlier.
  • winetricks_stats_init: always quote W_CACHE
  • dinput: new verb by Shannon, for winehq bug 21159
  • vd=640x480: new verb, by Shannon
  • diablo2: ported and updated. (Next up: diablo2bc, battle chest version.)
  • crysis2_demo_mp: fix non-q mode, use SetWinDelay to simplify. Patch by Phil.
  • W_CACHE_WIN should just be a drive letter and colon in wine penpenxmas: new verb (based on a patch by Manpreet Sangha)
  • crysis2_demo_mp: new verb by Austin
  • sammax301_demo: new verb by Phil
  • secondlife: ported and updated
  • w_download: autohotkey's download server doesn't like curl's user agent, so use a more common one
  • masseffect2_demo: partly fix windows install. (Clicks still not working.)
  • w_mount: Port support for windows mounts of iso volumes.
  • winetricks_read_volume_name: hexdump is not portable, use od instead
  • w_read_key: create directory before storing key
  • sims3: update to latest version, mention drm problem as showstopper
  • masseffect2: mark as broken drm.
  • masseffect2, masseffect2_demo: move workaround descriptions into
  • w_workaround arg.
  • masseffect2_demo: port verb
  • firefox4: updated to beta12
  • dragonage: ported verb. Flickers terribly in movies for me :-(
  • osmos_demo: bug 24416 fixed in 1.3.8
  • w_warn: in -q mode, time out after 5 seconds.
  • Get rid of debug print.
  • sims3: if we want menus to work, we have to install dotnet20.
  • Move sudo detect after gui detect; fixes running winetricks-alpha from system menu
  • ie68: no longer needed, now that ie8 works
  • w_warn: text passed to zenity must be escaped
  • ie8: make -q not fail install test.
  • Fix --gui option, which was ignored because variable was reset after option was processed
  • winetricks_set_wineprefix: Comment out debug print
  • annihilate: only delete .desktop files.
  • Use localized name for Desktop directory.
  • Move silent option to top level menu
  • ie8: set TabProcGrowth=0 to avoid hang. Fixes winezeug bug 159. Thanks to MatthiasLichter.
  • Fix running on cygwin (W_DRIVE_C was wrong)

A Introduction to Bordeaux 2011.03 for Linux FreeBSD and PC BSD

The upcoming Bordeaux for Linux and BSD 2011.03 release will see a major shift in how the program is written and the new features that will be available to current and future Bordeaux customers. This is a brief introduction to explain some of the many planned features that will be available in the upcoming Bordeaux 2011.03 release.

The first major change is the Bordeaux 2011.03 GUI has been rewritten from scratch in Gambas, and requires the Gambas 2.15.2 runtime libraries or higher to be installed to function correctly. You can easily install Gambas in Linux from Synaptic or Yum or by going to the Gambas site and downloading a binary or the source code. Gambas for FreeBSD and PC-BSD can be installed through a ports install. If you have PC-BSD you will need to install ports if you haven't already done so.

Here is a quick overview of the upcoming changes :
  • We now have 45 Games and Benchmarks that can be easily installed via Bordeaux.
  • Cellars e.g wineprefixes can now be easily made from a GUI Cellar maker.
  • Winetricks has been split up into categories, so its easier to find what you want quickly.
  • You can now explore a Cellar with the built in Explorer. In the future we will add the ability to run a application or game directly from the explorer.
  • We now have a built in update manager, updates will be simple and easy.
  • You can now delete, backup, import and export Cellars to different machines with ease. Or just backup and restore on your stand alone computer.
  • Unsupported applications can be easily installed and configured.
This introduction is just a overview of the many options Bordeaux 2011.03 and beyond will have, one area not covered here is the planned font configuration options that we are currently working on.

Pricing for Bordeaux 2011.03 will remain the same at only $20.00 per license. At this time Bordeaux is on sale for 50% off and this sale will end when we ship the upcoming 2011.03 release. So if you want to get Bordeaux while its still on sale and upgrade to 2011.03 once it has been released this is the best time to do it. Also, keep in mind you get six months of upgrades with your purchase.

Screenshots and descriptions :

This is the new Bordeaux Splash Screen that shows when you first start Bordeaux.

The software tab is the default view when Bordeaux starts, from here you can select the default applications to install. Just select a application and then next to proceed. In this screenshot you can only see about half of the default applications. A full list will be provided when we ship Bordeaux 2011.03

After you select the application you want to install and then next you are taken to the setup page. where you can select the default install or even modify the install if you wish.

Next is the Games Tab where we have benchmarks and Games with default installs, you can also modify the default install and make changes if you wish. At this time we have 45 Games and Benchmarks listed and plan to add more in the future.

In the Multimedia Tab you can install Multimedia components like video codecs and Microsoft DirectX into a Cellar.

In the Dlls Tab we have a large range of Microsoft Dlls that can be installed into a Cellar as well as color profiles.

In the Fonts Tab you can install a large range of Windows fonts into a Cellar.

In the Development Tab we have Microsoft Windows Development tools that can be installed into a default Cellar or a Cellar of your choice.

It is now drop dead simple to install unsupported applications or games in Wine with Bordeaux. You can install components into a cellar and then install the application or game into that same cellar. Select the Windows version, and name the cellar to your liking. After your Application or Game is installed just go to the Manage Wine Tab and you can easily make additional changes via regedit or winecfg.

After you install some of the supported applications or games you can select the top Wine Cellar tab and then view the cellar. From here you can delete, clone or backup a Cellar.

You can go to the Explorer tab and explore a cellar's contents. just double click on the Cellar you wish to explore.

You can also clone or backup a cellar, and then export it to another PC or restore it at a later date. Import copies the backup to the backup folder import + restore imports backup and restores to a cellar. Export allows you to save/download and move backups elsewhere.

The manage Wine tab list all the builtin Wine tools so you can modify a Cellar to your liking, run regedit and tweak the registry settings, or winecfg and set the most common settings. You can run any of the builtin tools or games from the cellar of your choice, just select the Cellar from the drop down menu.

Here is a screenshot of the drop down menu and the programs that I currently have installed with Bordeaux 2011.03 at this time.

This is a screenshot of the About tab, where you can see a full changelog or check for updates.

In the future upgrading Bordeaux will be as simple as a couple mouse clicks. When new updates are available all you have to do is check and then install the update and your set. It's that simple...

When your ready to exit Bordeaux you can do a full exit or keep Bordeaux in the system tray for easy access. If you choose the system tray, just click the Bordeaux icon and Bordeaux will be ready for use instantly.

Please keep in mind this is just a brief overview of Bordeaux 2011.03 and more features are planned for this release and future releases. If you would like to support this release please consider making a purchase or donation today.
