So has anyone really taken on the whole Geotag feature of Googles Picasa-Earth duo?  If you are running Linux or FreeBSD; I would guess probably not, but fear not now there is a way for you to add GPS data to your photos.

For this howto I'll be using a picture from a tower 3000 meters up on Kitzbuhel Horn, Austria.  I really recommend Austria to those of you who like skiing or snowboarding.  Forget powder in the U.S., Europe is the place to go!

You can install Google Earth and Picasa in any order. The method I chose is on Page 2.

After installation of both applications you can either fire up both or just run Picasa.

Select the picture you would like to geotag and click the geotag button below

Google Earth will open up if not already running and will show a crosshair on the screen.

Drag the globe and zoom into your location of where the picture was taken and then click the Geotag button and then click done

Now go back to Picasa and right click on the picture you just added the geotag to and click properties.  Notice the now GPS data on the lower left.

Pretty simple.  Happy Geotagging!
