IEs 4 Linux Internet Explorer 5.0 5.5 6.0 on Linux PDF Print E-mail

Over the last year or so Ive read allot of good things about IEs 4 Linux and today I thought I would give the script a try for myself. IEs 4 Linux is a simple Bash Script program that installs Internet Explorer 5.0 5.5 6.0 on Linux. IE 7.0 support is currently in beta testing builds and should be officially supported in their next stable release.

So why would anyone want IE on Linux when we already have superior browsers?

1) To test web pages to make sure they render correctly in all browsers.
2) 60% of the world still uses IE, some people actually like or prefer IE.
3) Some people moving from Windows to Linux may have only used IE in the past, its the only browser there familiar with.
4) If for some reason the (User Agent Switcher) extension doesn't work with your bank or favorite site.

IEs 4 Linux at this time only has two dependence's

CODEWEAVERS MARKS 15TH BIRTHDAY BY REVEALING BIRTHER VIDEO PDF Print E-mail
Written by Tom Wickline
Wednesday, 18 May 2011 12:02

Offers all software at price corresponding to day of the month: $15 on May 15, $16 on May 16, etc.

SAINT PAUL, Minn. (May 12, 2011) CodeWeavers, Inc., which provides the celebrated CrossOver software enabling Mac and Linux users to run Windows software on their computers without the need of a Microsoft license, this week marks its 15th birthday by releasing its birther video and offering its new CrossOver Bundle product at a price that corresponds with the day of the month.

Star-crossed hook-up at mega mall
As the birther video reveals, CodeWeavers was founded by CEO Jeremy White after witnessing the inception of a fiery romance between a Mac user and a PC devotee who met on a random Tuesday afternoon at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn. With that passion—and seed capital White earned in a lawsuit he settled out of court after being rear-ended on I-35W by an over-caffeinated campaign volunteer for H. Ross Perot’s ill-fated ‘96 presidential campaign—the product known as CrossOver came to be.

“I’m incredibly proud of CrossOver, which has grown into a bright-eyed teenager,” said White as he sat at his desk attempting to dry his tears off the birthday card he was signing for his software. “Sure, he’s had his meltdowns and occasionally he’s done things I had no idea he could do. But, through it all he’s been a trusty alternative for individuals who want to run Windows applications on their computer without the drudgery and expense of buying a Microsoft license.

“So, to celebrate CodeWeavers birthday, we are rolling out our new CrossOver Bundle product—which contains both our CrossOver and CrossOver Games products in one neat package. And we’re offering it in a pricing structure that is not only incredibly affordable but also mind-bogglingly confusing.”

CrossOver price to correspond with day of month
Beginning May 15 and continuing through May 31, individuals can download the new CodeWeavers Bundle product at a price that corresponds with the day of the month. Normally a $49.95 value, individuals can buy the software for $15 on May 15, $16 on May 16, $17 on May 17, and onward through May 31. Full details can be found here.

Introduction to Bordeaux 2011.03 for Linux, FreeBSD and PC BSD PDF Print E-mail
Written by Tom Wickline
Wednesday, 02 March 2011 06:51

The upcoming Bordeaux for Linux and BSD 2011.03 release will see a major shift in how the program is written and the new features that will be available to current and future Bordeaux customers. This is a brief introduction to explain some of the many planned features that will be available in the upcoming Bordeaux 2011.03 release.

The first major change is the Bordeaux 2011.03 GUI has been rewritten from scratch in Gambas, and requires the Gambas 2.15.2 runtime libraries or higher to be installed to function correctly. You can easily install Gambas in Linux from Synaptic or Yum or by going to the Gambas site and downloading a binary or the source code. Gambas for FreeBSD and PC-BSD can be installed through a ports install. If you have PC-BSD you will need to install ports if you haven't already done so.

Here is a quick overview of the upcoming changes :

  • We now have 45 Games and Benchmarks that can be easily installed via Bordeaux.
  • Cellars e.g wineprefixes can now be easily made from a GUI Cellar maker.
  • Winetricks has been split up into categories, so its easier to find what you want quickly.
  • You can now explore a Cellar with the built in Explorer. In the future we will add the ability to run a application or game directly from the explorer.
  • We now have a built in update manager, updates will be simple and easy.
  • You can now delete, backup, import and export Cellars to different machines with ease. Or just backup and restore on your stand alone computer.
  • Unsupported applications can be easily installed and configured.

This introduction is just a overview of the many options Bordeaux 2011.03 and beyond will have, one area not covered here is the planned font configuration options that we are currently working on.

Pricing for Bordeaux 2011.03 will remain the same at only $20.00 per licence. At this time Bordeaux is on sale for 50% off and this sale will end when we ship the upcoming 2011.03 release. So if you want to get Bordeaux while its still on sale and upgrade to 2011.03 once it has been released this is the best time to do it. Also, keep in mind you get six months of upgrades with your purchase.

Wineskin 2.0 RC2 has been released WS6 engines updates and Multiple Monitors support coming PDF Print E-mail
Written by Tom Wickline
Tuesday, 01 February 2011 09:10

Wineskin wrapper 2.0 RC2 along with WS6 engines are now up and available in Wineskin Winery 1.0 RC1. The Manual should have all current info correctly.

RC1 wrappers will not work right with WS6 engines... I also suggest not using WS5 engines in RC2

RC1 wrappers should be able to update, and change engines fine using Wineskin.app once you have downloaded them in Wineskin Winery.

Biggest changes...

True fullscreen support for gaming using Display Capturing, with a toggle to get in and out (Cmd+Opt+A)

Fixes for file associations, so you can open files with wrappers from Finder correctly even if the wrapper was already running.

From Jeremy Whites Blog :

So we set out to make the newly released Civilization V would work in CrossOver a few weeks back. I felt it was my duty to help the QA staff with the testing.

Now, way back in the day, the only time I ever seriously neglected my work, my life, and everything was when Civilization, the original, was released. I distinctly recall looking up from my computer one day, two weeks after I'd gotten it, and wondering, "What have I done!?!?!" Cleverly, I had gotten a copy for my wife, and she was busily playing as well, so I wasn't confronted with divorce the way you might expect. But let's just say I'm lucky my boss at the time wasn't paying a lot of attention to my productivity.
