Wine-Review May poll results PDF Print E-mail

Here is the results of our May poll, We had a total of 393 votes. With 43% of votes cast for (use only the stable branch) I hope the last couple release candidates improve upon where Wine is now... The reason why I say this is, Wine 0.9.58 is the pinnacle as far as Microsoft Office 2007 support goes, not to mention the other office applications and games that have seen regressions since the code freeze. :( If you have a suggestion for a future poll please send it our way.

Well it's actually "IEs 4 Linux" that has been run on FreeBSD 7 :D

Everything is the same on FreeBSD as on Linux as well here..
All you have to do is install cabextract, wget & unzip from ports and then run ies4linux and it will do everything for you. You will want to look at the Linux guide and see some of the suggestions that I make about how to fix a couple annoyances that's present in the default install.

The Linux guide to IEs 4 Linux is here.

Crossover Mac 10 Review PDF Print E-mail

Having a Mac has it’s ups and downs, its awesome for music, business, and school. One thing Mac is definitely lacking are games. All those awesome titles like Call of Duty, Battlefield, and others are usually only on Windows and occasionally iOS, but there is always an answer and in this case it is called CrossOver. CrossOver brings all those great applications made for Windows to your Mac and even Linux. It comes in three different versions to fit your needs: CrossOver Standard, CrossOver Games, and CrossOver Professional. Here is a quick summary of how it works. It emulates windows, but there is no dealing with virtual machines or full reboots. CrossOver simulates a reboot within the application if one is needed. CrossOver beats virtualizing games on your Mac in VMware Fusion or Parallels by not having to run unnecessary processes.

It also works with Wine, which pretty much ports or brings over the important files from Windows and allows your Mac to run the applications in CrossOver. It works very well with CrossTie games, but I have found that games that are not supported by CrossTie directly have a slight amount of lag, but for gaming on a Mac, the graphics and speed are on par. However, you also need to take into account that the lag might not be from the application, but the hardware of the Mac.

Wineskin 2.0 RC1 is here! (made in Wineskin Winery)

The Website FAQ and Manual are also updated!

WS5 engine bases are here.  It will take awhile to build a lot more official engines... custom engines can still be built with the WS5EngineBase.

I’ll get more engines up, and manual install files up as I can.

Please report any bugs ASAP!  No new features, only bug fixes from here on out

(upgrading wrappers from beta6 to RC1 may not work correctly from the Wineskin.app Upgrade function because of missing entries in the Info.plist.  This will not happen for upgrades at RC1+)

Wine-Reviews Acquires The Bordeaux Technology Group PDF Print E-mail
Written by Tom Wickline
Wednesday, 12 January 2011 10:21

Washington, DC - January 12, 2011 - Wine-Reviews Inc. today announced it acquired The Bordeaux Technology Group., a Greenville, SC-based Wine services company.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Bordeaux entered the Wine services market in early 2008 and gained a foothold through its strength in marketing, branding and the technology expertise of a limited partnership with Wine-Reviews Inc.

With the acquisition of Bordeaux, Wine-Reviews has transformed from a stand alone news portal service to a full service Wine information and Technology company. With the acquisition of The Bordeaux Technology Group, Wine-Reviews will provide the current Bordeaux customer base with better support and upgrade options. Future Bordeaux releases will have an auto upgrade option built in, this feature will allow the end user to upgrade to the newest version with a single mouse click.

Wine-Reviews plans to re-write all of the current code used in Bordeaux and provide a vastly improved graphical user interface to make the process of installing Windows applications and games on Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, and OpenIndiana as easy and strait forward as possible. The current GUI is written in GTK and is extremely limited in it's functionality and options.
