Wine Reviews
|
Over the past week there has been a lively discussion about linking from WineHQ to a forum, or a number of popular forums out there for Wine users. WineHQ has has a wine-users mailing list for a number of years now and with the popularity of forums, bulitin boards allot of people ask Wine related questions on third party forums and bypass the official mailing list. Two of the more popular forums that have sections for Wine are the linuxforums and ubuntu forums, and with this in mind Dan Kegel sent this patch to wine-patches. Perhaps this will help slake the thirst of those who periodically ask if Wine needs a forum. But to no avail alot of the folks on the mailing list want a bidirectional gateway between a forum and the wine-user mailing list.... This way you can post on the forum or the mailing list and have your message show up on the other. :D Then Jeremy White sent a message that they had been working on such a idea in the back ground for a couple days.. did some looking into this myself. Drupal looked interesting, but the solution that seemed simplest and best to me was using a phpbb and a mailman <--> phpbb gateway. So we're experimenting with that at the moment (thanks, Newman :-/). The plan is to continue fuddling and let some data fill, and then cut it live in a day or so. If we hate it, we can continue looking for a solution... Cheers, Jeremy And then the next day the new Wine forums went live. :D http://forum.winehq.org/ But after only two short days the forums were locked down because spammers have all but over run the new forums....... :( This message was sent from the site admin: Account Creation is disabled. I've disabled account creation for the time being on this forum. I've had a fun weekend of dealing with the slime of humanity banning accounts and deleting posts. But, to no avail. These people don't give up. They don't care about the sites they ruin, or the sysadmins they tick off. I need some volunteers to help moderate and watch the account queue. I'm not going to be the one who makes a full time job out of cleaning up this site. That was the deal when I created it in the first place. If this site gets out of control, I will not bat an eye about shutting it off. Private message me if you want to help admin. So if you need help or want to take part in a Wine discussion the http://www.wine-reviews.net/forum.html is up and open, and you wont have to worry about your inbox being filled full of SPAM or the forum being pulled due these excessive practices. |
