This is with a clean configuration directory and running in a 1024x768 virtual desktop. tom@tom:~$ winecfg wine: creating configuration directory '/home/tom/.wine'... fixme:midi:OSS_MidiInit Synthesizer supports MIDI in. Not yet supported. wine: '/home/tom/.wine' created successfully. Now change the version that Wine emulates from windows 2000 to windows 98. Next select "Libraries" and set ole32, oleaut32, olepro32, rpcrt4, stdole2.tlb, stdole32.tlb as native (Windows) when you add stdole2.tlb and stdole32.tlb your going to receive a warning just say yes and proceed.  Now go to ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32 and rename ole32, oleaut32, olepro32 and rpcrt4 to *.bak If you don't already have a copy of DCOM98 you will need to google and download it. As soon as you have DCOM98 your ready to proceed. tom@tom:~$ wine dcom98.exe fixme:midi:OSS_MidiInit Synthesizer supports MIDI in. Not yet supported. tom@tom:~$   The DCOM98 install wont give you a confirmation of a successful install! So if you want you can go back to ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32 and double check that DCOM was actually installed. You will want to grab this tahoma.zip file and uncompress it in your fonts directory. ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts The next thing todo is set the Owner and Organization. $wine regedit; then set the Owner and Organization [Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion] [Software\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion] Mount your Office 97 CD or go to the directory where you have the software saved and start the setup. The setup should run without any errors and complete as successful.            Word, excel & powerpoint first run.
