Running MS Office 2000 under Linux with Wine Print

I'm aware Office 2000 is considered old software, but if you have a copy laying around and would like to give it a try under Wine here is a easy howto.

This is with a clean configuration directory and running in a 1024x768 virtual desktop.

tom@tom:~$ winecfg
wine: creating configuration directory '/home/tom/.wine'...

wine: '/home/tom/.wine' created successfully.

Set a virtul desktop if you wish, this is also a good time to set your sound driver. You will also want to set riched20.dll & riched32.dll as navite (Windows)

Now install the richedit30 update, make sure you go to ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32 and rename riched20.dll and riched32.dll to *.bak or the richedit update wont work.

You will want to grab this tahoma.zip file and uncompress it in your fonts directory.

~/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts

The next thing todo is set the Owner and Organization.

$wine regedit; then set the Owner and Organization
[Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion]
[Software\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion]

Mount your Office 2000 CD or go to the directory where you have the software saved and start the setup. The setup should run without any errors and complete as successful.

tom@tom:/media/cdrom0$ wine setup

Word, excel & powerpoint first run.

Word 2000

tom@tom:~$ cd /home/tom/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Microsoft\ Office/Office
tom@tom:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Microsoft Office/Office$ wine winword.exe
fixme:x11drv:X11DRV_GetDeviceCaps (0x30c): CAPS1 is unimplemented, will return 0





Excel 2000

tom@tom:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Microsoft Office/Office$ wine excel.exe

Power Point 2000

Makes me wonder if ANY version of Office can install on Wine.
