Testing
This test was done in a clean wine prefix and the game was played in a Virtual Desktop. I used a genuine European copy of the game.

Installing Trackmania United
Insert the TMU disc in your computer, and direct to the the disc in a terminal. In my case it looks like this:

$ cd /media/cdrom0

And then you start the installation program by typing:

$ wine TmUnitedSetup.exe



Don't start the game, because it will install Starforce then, which is completely unnecessary because the patch/add-on Trackmania Forever (which is free!) works without Starforce.

Installing Trackmania Forever
After you have installed United, download Forever from:

Place the executable in your home folder, and start installing by typing the following in a terminal:

$ wine tmunitedforever_fromtmu_setup.exe



Changing Wine Settings/Adding .dll files
You can change some settings in Wine's regedit (type ”regedit” in a terminal) to enhance performance. This is how my settings look like:



I found that setting OffScreenRenderingMode got rid of almost all of the graphical glitches that I saw with backbuffer. But there still exists bugs with the more advanced graphical settings (like bloom and motion blur).

The game will require d3dx9_30.dll and d3dx9_36.dll to work properly! Download the dll files and place them in either the game folder or in the System32 folder!

Playing the game
After you have installed United and Forever, start the game either from the start menu or by typing ”wine TmUnitedForeverLauncher.exe” from the game folder.
