Information
With the 3DMark patch, the games will recognize your systems pixelshader and DirectX levels, allowing you to play more games, and turn up the graphical settings on many games.

You will need the following things:
Wine source

3Dmark patch (0.9.58 and earlier) or 3Dmark patch (0.9.59 and higher)

Unpack the Wine Source and place the 3DMark in the unpacked folder.

Patching
Direct to the unpacked folder in a terminal, in my case it looks like this:

david@david-desktop:~$ cd wine-1.0-rc2

When you are in that directory, use the following command to patch the source. "patch -p1 < patchname.patch"

david@david-desktop:~/wine-1.0-rc2$ patch -p1 < 3dmark.patch

Now it should be patched! Then you simply must compile Wine

Compiling

In the Wine source folder, you will find a readme on how to compile Wine. This is simply how it goes (write the following in a terminal):

./configure

make depend && make

Installing

Make sure you have uninstalled previous Wine versions before installing!

After you have compiled Wine, you can install it by typing:

make install

And that should do the trick!

You can read more about how to use Wine here: Installing Wine

Hello David,

I just read you're review about compiling and patching wine with 3Dmark patch. I have
a few unclear things thought. I hope you can spare some time to solve my problems. I would like to
know if 3Dmark patch (the 0.9.59 and higher one) is still compatible with wine 1.1.16? I downloaded
the source files and when I applied the patch it returns with errors like this:

me@home:~/Desktop/wine-1.1.6$ patch -p1 < wine-0.9.59-3dmark.patch
patching file
dlls/wined3d/directx.c

succeeded at 3369 (offset 297 lines).
Hunk #4 FAILED at 3387.
2 out of 4 hunks FAILED -- saving
rejects to file dlls/wined3d/directx.c.rej

So, what do you thing? Should I continue with
./configure ?
My distro is Ubuntu 8.04.

Kind regards,
and keep up the good work - I booked youre
website.

Patch not needed on Wine >=1.1.3

When compiling from source use "checkinstall" instead of
"make install" - it will create a Slackware, RPM or Debian compatible package and install
it.

To work around a bug in 1.6.1 use "checkinstall --fstrans=no"
I need help to compile wine
